Kazandžijsko sokače (Tinkers’ Alley) is part of the Old Niš center built in the first half of the 18th century. In Ottoman times, the “Sagr Cincar mahala” (Craftsmen’s Neighborhood) was there, which was a craftsmen’s part of town. It was a small alley, about a hundred meters long, containing coppersmiths, coopers and weavers’ craft stores, as well as the houses of craftsmen. After the liberation from the Turks, there were 13 coppersmiths’ stores, and the last one was closed in the nineties of the 20th century. At the end of the 19th and early 20th centuries, the street was named Zanatlijska (Craftsmen’s). After the First World War, it was given the name Kopitareva, but it remained known as the Tinkers’ Alley.

Kazandžijsko sokače is located in the center of Niš and ranges from “Trg Republike” to the “Kalča” shopping center. In the late 1990s, a large number of restaurants and cafes were opened in this street, and it became the favorite meeting place for the young, and one of the most popular tourist attractions in Niš.
